Lateral deputy pay
- Lateral deputy pay for 2026 ranges from $32.07 - 51.45 per hour and from $70,040 - 112,366 annually (negotiable based on skills, certifications, and law enforcement experience)
- Regarding longevity pay at 9 and 10 years, lateral deputies receive Olmsted County years of service credit based on the wage step they move into upon hire
- Pre-loaded PTO up to 80 hours negotiable upon hire
- Abbreviated FTO process based on experience and proficiency
- Relocation allowance available up to $2,500.00
- Paid on-duty fitness program

- 2027 pay scale: $33.90 - 53.76 hourly, $74,037 - 117,411 annually
- 2028 pay scale: $38.15 - 58.40 hourly, $83,319 - 127,545 annually
- All annual deputy wages are calculated at 2184 hours for the year
- Shift differentials are up to $1.35-1.85 for working afternoons/nights
Take-home squad
- Deputies may drive their squad car to and from work if they reside in Olmsted, Dodge, Goodhue, Mower, Fillmore, Winona, or Wabasha County.
Paid time off
- Paid time off (PTO) accrual of 7-11.5 hours (182-299 yearly hours) per 14-day pay period, based on years of service
- An additional 105-109 hours of holiday time to use as paid time off every year

Newly Constructed Public Safety Training Center
- The newly constructed training center addition includes the following: driving track, 50, 100, 200-yard firearms ranges, burn tower, multi-level scenario structures, 36x48’ defensive tactics training mat room, and a dedicated fitness area with strength training and cardio equipment.

New hire testing process
- The preliminary testing process is completed in one day and consists of two components
- Panel Interview
- Applicants will participate in 2 small panel interviews, approximately 30 minutes each. The passing score for each interview is 70% or greater.
- 2000-Meter Row Test
- The 2000-meter row test is the fitness standard used for all applicants during our hiring process. Enter your age, weight, and gender in the Minnesota State Patrol calculator and select 50% under “Desired Results.” The resulting time is your required standard. For example, a male applicant age 20–29 weighing 215 pounds has a required time of approximately 9:01. 2000-Meter Row Test Calculator

Detective (Plus $620 annual uniform allowance)
- 2026 - $40.95 - 56.07 hourly, $89,434 - 122,456 annually

- 2028 - $47.43 - 63.24 hourly, $103,587 - 138,116 annually
Sergeant

Minimum qualifications
Applicants must meet ONE of the following requirements in order to proceed to the competitive examination phase of the hiring process:
- Have an active Minnesota POST license and meet the requirements for maintaining such license; or
- Have approval from, or have applied for approval from, the Minnesota POST Board to take the Licensing Reciprocity Exam; or
- Have approval from, or have applied for approval from, the Minnesota POST Board to take the Peace Officer Licensing Exam; or
- Have approval from, or have applied for approval from, the Minnesota POST Board to take the Reinstatement of Eligibility Exam; or
- Have approval from, or have applied for approval from, the Minnesota POST Board to take the License Restoration Exam.
- Be Minnesota POST license eligible by the time a conditional job offer is made.
In addition to possessing one of the above qualifications, applicants must have the following to proceed to the competitive examination phase of the hiring process:
- U.S. citizenship; and
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
