Welcome to Olmsted County, MN

A Materials Recovery Facility, or MRF, is a place where recyclables are sorted so they can be reused instead of thrown away. Olmsted County’s new MRF will help our community recycle more, keep reusable materials out of the landfill, and support a cleaner environment. Construction of the MRF continued to make steady progress in September 2026, and several big steps are coming soon.

The declaration may allow jurisdictions in the county to apply for assistance from the State of Minnesota for partial reimbursement for the costs of restoring power, managing debris, and other effects from the storm. This declaration does not provide funding for private property owners and is limited to eligible public infrastructure damage.

 

For counties across Minnesota, this legislation represents a long‑awaited opportunity to upgrade core human services systems that staff rely on daily, many of which are more than three decades old. The modernization effort aims to improve efficiency, support residents more effectively, and ensure human services staff have tools that reflect current technology standards.
