Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Services - Behavioral Health Fund Update
Effective July 1, 2026, administration of the Behavioral Health Fund will move from county and tribal agencies to the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS). A new DHS webpage will serve as a central access point for information about the program and for submitting applications.
What the Behavioral Health Fund Does
The Behavioral Health Fund helps pay for substance use disorder (SUD) treatment for people who apply and meet eligibility requirements. It is designed for individuals within specific income limits who:
- Have no health insurance, or
- Have insurance that does not fully cover the cost of SUD treatment.
Eligibility Period
If approved, individuals receive 60 consecutive calendar days of eligibility to pursue SUD treatment funded by the Behavioral Health Fund. DHS will pay the enrolled Minnesota Health Care Program provider directly.
