Media Release: Arrest of Subject in Marion Township

On June 18, 2025, at approximately 8 p.m., the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) was contacted by the Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) requesting assistance. WCSO stated they were investigating a homicide that occurred in their county. A potential suspect, Craig Hameister, a 44-year-old male from Rochester, could be in Olmsted County and OCSO was asked to help locate and arrest.

Hameister was observed near the 6800 block of Meadowbrook Street Southeast in Marion Township and fled from deputies. Information was also learned that Hameister may have a firearm. A perimeter was set up, and resources, including the Rochester Olmsted Emergency Response Unit, Minnesota State Patrol, and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), responded to the scene. Hameister was located in a wooded area and hid for several hours. Hameister eventually surrendered without incident. Hameister was taken into custody and turned over to Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office.

The Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office is the lead agency on this investigation. As it is still an ongoing investigation, no further information can be released. Please refer additional questions to the Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office. WCSO has also released an initial press release.

Finally, the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all residences for staying out of the area and those that sheltered in place allowing Law Enforcement to safely conduct their job.
