Note from Sheriff Torgerson
This past month I presided over the fall Swearing In and Awards Presentation for the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office. The event being my last one of course had special meaning, but I have often lately thought back to that day in 1980 (see below pic) of my original swearing in moment with Sheriff Don Omodt in Hennepin County, February 19th, 1980. That moment in time was and continues to be very special to me. And I can’t stop thinking about how important it must be to the families we now let attend and how far we have come in these past 46 almost 47 years. And of course I haven't changed a bit!
I continue to be very proud of the men and women in our office and this profession both disciplines detention and law enforcement. Men and women who swear to an oath to serve every day not knowing the challenges they will face but determined to do their best for it is the least we can do. That is why commemorating their good and even great works is so important to be recognized by their peers, families, and communities. I am so proud to have worked all these years next to everyday heroes. I’ve been so blessed by every one of them.
And lastly but more importantly to thank the families that walk alongside them. My wife, Lori, our kids, Nick and Marissa, and the rest of my family. You too are gifts that have always been a blessing to me. Thank you, all!
Fall OCSO Swearing-In and Awards Program
Last week, we gathered for our 2026 Fall Awards Program to recognize individuals who continue to make meaningful contributions to Olmsted County. We were proud to present Certificates of Appointment, Certificates of Promotion, Letters of Recognition, Toward Zero Deaths Awards, Life Saving Awards, and Medals of Commendation.
Twice each year, we pause to honor the dedication and service demonstrated by members of our agency and community partners. Their commitment strengthens Olmsted County and the work we do every day.
Congratulations to all who were honored, and thank you for your continued service to Olmsted County residents and the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.
