Note from Sheriff Torgerson
Every day, men and women across the US put on their uniform and leave their families to serve and protect their communities…it is no different here in Olmsted County.
The Thin Silver Line represents the correctional officer standing between those who are in custody for crimes against our society, preventing further harm.
The Thin Blue Line represents the peace officer standing the line in our communities separating peaceful order from chaos.
When deputies in our office accept their appointment or a promotion their families pin the badge ceremoniously on their uniform. This signifies each day they go to work, their family’s thoughts and prayers are with them every step of the way, waiting for their safe return home.
The symbolism carries forward to when they change from a soiled uniform to a new or clean one, they save the badge as the last item added to the uniform being their badge. This serves as a frequent reminder of the oath pledging their solemn duty to their communities and their families hopes, dreams, and prayers for their protection.
Welcome to our new members of our Office and thank you to all those who serve. .
2025 Fall Awards Program
The Sheriff’s Office held the Fall Awards Program on October 7th at the Public Safety Training Center.
This was an exciting event for us as usual swearing in our new staff, promotions and presenting awards; however, we also had the joy of holding the event in the new Public Safety Training Center. The inaugural awards program in our new facility allowed us to showcase some of the great things we can do with the space including allowing members of our staff that were at training off-site, the ability to attend via Teams. This has also been an event we’ve always had to rent space for in the past; it was a joy to utilize the multi-purpose training space for our Awards Program. Thank you to our Training Center Staff who helped the night’s events go seamlessly.
This Fall Awards Program included many new deputies, a few promotions, letters of recognition, heroic life-saving awards, and medals of commendation. Congratulations to all of our honorees.
