Campaign finance reports
Minnesota state statute requires local officials to publish campaign finance reports online based on jurisdiction population and dollar amounts spent.
In depth information on campaign finance filings can be found on the Minnesota Campaign Finance Board and by reviewing the campaign manual below.
Campaign Finance Information
Initial Reports
Candidates or their campaign committees
Must file an initial campaign report with the City Clerk's Office within 14 days of either receiving or spending a total of $750 or more in a calendar year.
Committees or Corporations
Must file an initial campaign report with the City Clerk's Office within 14 days of spending more than $750 for or against a ballot question in a calendar year.
Annual Reports
After an initial report is filed, an annual report must be filed by January 31 of each year following the year in which the initial report was filed. Annual reports must continue to be filed every year until a final report is filed indicating all campaign debts are settled and the candidate or committee has less than $100 in assets remaining.
Election Year Reports
An "election year" is any year in which the candidate's name or a question appears on the ballot. No reports are required until the candidate, campaign, or committee reaches the $750 threshold for spending or receiving contributions. Any reports falling after an initial report must be submitted will be due on the dates indicated.
All candidates appearing on the November General Election Ballot must also complete and file a Certification of Filing within 7 days after the election, regardless of whether they were required to file an initial report.
