Promotion for Olmsted Waste-to-Energy Facility Open House 2025

Tour overview

  • Learn how the Olmsted Waste-to-Energy Facility uses garbage to produce energy for buildings on the Olmsted County District Energy System!
     
  • Visitors will be taken on a guided walking tour through multiple levels of the OWEF. Stair-climbing is involved; however, an elevator is available as needed.
     
  • Casual attire is recommended. Sturdy shoes (no flip flops) are required.
     
  • While on the tour, you will learn about Olmsted County's Integrated Solid Waste Management System which includes:
    • Recycling Center Plus.
    • Hazardous Waste Facility.
    • Yard Waste Compost Site.
    • Waste-to-Energy Facility.
    • Kalmar Landfill.
       
  • This tour is appropriate for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. 
     
  • New this year - local waste haulers will have garbage/recycling trucks parked on display just outside the facility's entrance.

The OWEF is located down the street from the Recycling Center Plus at 301 Energy Parkway NE, Rochester, MN.
