Parenting resources
Family Support Team is committed to a two-generational approach to providing services to meet the needs of families it serves. Case management services is the forum for staff to partner with families to meet the well-being needs of their child(ren) in the following areas: educational needs, advocacy and access to resources or services in the community, establishing patterns of stability, providing parent education and support regarding child development and increasing confidence in parenting.
You can access these programs by calling 507-328-6099 or 507-328-6400 and requesting service through the Family Support Team programs.
First time parents: (18 years or older)
New baby:
- Collaboration with Public Health for home and/or community visits.
- Ongoing support/information regarding healthy pregnancy, child development, housing, budgeting/finances, health care, childcare, education/employment goals, parenting, and decision making.
- Monthly family activities.
- Families can be enrolled during pregnancy through early infancy.
Pregnant and parenting teens (up to age 18):
- Pregnancy and parenting support program for adolescent moms, dads, and their child.
- Families receive support and information regarding parenting options, healthy pregnancy, child development, housing, budgeting/finances, child care, education/work goals, and referrals to community resources.
- Home or community visits
- Collaboration with Public Health
Minority families with a child under five years:
Participants are families of minority with children birth to five years old.
Services Include:
- Case management services that help provide opportunities and access to early childhood education.
- Connections to community resources.
- Family support and advocacy.
- Home and/or community visits.
This service strives to help create a positive legacy for minority children in our community by increasing access to early childhood education services and connecting families with other resources in the community that empower them to reach their highest potential.
Families with at least one child under age 10 years old with a well-being need:
Participants are families who are experiencing complex challenges regarding one or more of the following: disproportionality, generational poverty, historical trauma, housing challenges, domestic violence, substance abuse, mental health challenges, educational advocacy and support, parenting education and support, employment stability and needs related to child well-being
Services Include:
- Home and or community visits
- Comprehensive trauma informed case management services
- Support accessing Early Intervention services
- Resources and service connection to employment support
- Early childhood, school and/or other educational support and advocacy
- Connection to Public Health Services
- Provide information and resources regarding parenting, child development, housing stability, budgeting, goal setting and decision making.
FATHER Project
The positive involvement of both parents in a child’s life is important to their healthy development and overall wellbeing. FATHER Project assists fathers in overcoming the barriers that prevent them from supporting their children emotionally and economically. Fathers receive intensive case management services and career development services providing access to supports and resources. Weekly parenting groups offer practical parenting skills and support from peer fathers in similar circumstance
There are no costs associated with FATHER Project services.
