Radon Testing

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US, and about half of Olmsted County homes have radon levels that exceed the EPA Action Level.

Olmsted County can loan you a radon testing kit.

Keep in mind

You are borrowing the kit from Olmsted County. You are responsible to keep the kit away from moisture and electric or static shock. If the test kit or its components become damaged while the kit is in your possession, you will pay the cost of fixing the kit.

If you do not return the kit you will pay for the cost of the kit.

1. Reserve your kit

Use the online request form to reserve your kit and pay the processing fee.

To view fee information, please use the Fee Finder tool on the Olmsted County Fee webpage and search for the fee you are inquiring about.
Example: If you are inquiring about the fees for a radon or real estate radon test, type “radon” in the search.

2. Pick up the radon test kit

On the day and time that you reserved to pick up your test, come to:

Public Health Services
2100 Campus Drive SE
Suite 100
Rochester, MN 55904

You will need a valid form of identification (driver's license, state-issued ID, etc.).

3. Run the test

Follow the directions that are included in the radon test kit.

4. Return the kit

Return the kit to Olmsted County Public Health Services within one week of the issue date.
