Olmsted County to participate in active threat training exercise at Century High School

Olmsted County, together with the City of Rochester and supporting local agencies, will take part in an active threat training exercise at Century High School on Monday, August 3, 2026. This training event is designed to strengthen joint response capabilities and ensure teams are ready to work together during high‑risk or rapidly evolving situations.

The exercise will feature wide involvement from Olmsted County, the City of Rochester, Rochester Police Department, Rochester Fire Department, Mayo Clinic Ambulance, and Rochester Public Schools. The coordinated drill provides an opportunity to practice communication, decision‑making, and on‑scene operations in a realistic training environment.

In addition to strengthening interagency collaboration, the exercise also supports ongoing efforts to evaluate emergency plans, refine communication tools, and identify areas where additional training or resources may be beneficial. 

Residents and businesses in the surrounding area may notice a large emergency vehicle presence throughout the day at Century High School on August 3. There is no cause for alarm and sirens will not be used by emergency vehicles on scene. This is a planned exercise, and all activity will be part of the training scenario. 

No impacts to the traveling public are expected outside of the Century High School property. Roadways and normal traffic patterns in the surrounding neighborhood and greater community should remain unaffected.
