ROCHESTER, Minn. – Olmsted County Public Health continues to see high numbers of COVID-19 positive residents in our community. Olmsted County Public Health is recommending that individuals who gathered with others outside their immediate households over the holiday weekend limit their time around others and if possible, stay home and isolated for 14 days after the last day spent with non-household contacts. People should monitor their health for any symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested if symptoms do develop.
Holiday gatherings pose concerns for transmission of COVID-19 based on the current volume of transmission locally, because infected people might not have any symptoms but could spread the virus to others, and because small groups of friends and family have led to recent transmission in Olmsted County. Staying close to home for the next 14 days, just in case you were exposed unknowingly will help to contain the virus and not allow it to continue moving through our community,” says Public Health Director Graham Briggs.
Individuals who develop symptoms consistent with COVID-19 after spending significant time with others should call a Nurse Triage Line to get tested:
Mayo COVID-19 Nurse Line at 507-293-9525
Olmsted Medical Center COVID-19 nurse line at 507-292-7266
It is important to remember that this virus does not discriminate, and it will attack anyone if given the chance. We must not allow the virus to get that chance. We are all in this together. For the safety of our community, please remember these important guidelines to reduce the spread of COVID-19:
- Stay home if:
- you are feeling ill
- have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19
- recently attended a large holiday gathering or event where individuals were not masked and social distancing was not followed
- Wear a face covering anytime you are outside your own home
- Take part in social distancing (6 feet)
- Properly wash your hands often
- Cover coughs and sneezes, dispose of soiled tissues and wash your hands after
