  • News
  • Aug 5, 2025

On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners reviewed 2025 Resident Survey results, offering a fresh look at community feedback and priorities across the county.

In early 2025, Olmsted County residents were encouraged to participate in the survey. A total of 6,000 Olmsted County Resident Surveys were mailed to more than 800 randomized households in each commissioner district. More than 1,000 residents took the survey and offered their perspectives.

“We are pleased to share results of our recent resident survey, which reflect the voices and experiences of our community,” said Olmsted County Administrator Travis Gransee. “The feedback we received is very valuable and helps guide our work to serve residents better. We’re grateful to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts and help shape the future of Olmsted County."

Key findings

Community satisfaction and safety rated highly in the survey.

  • Approximately 80% of respondents rated Olmsted County as an excellent or good place to live.
  •  A similar proportion expressed a likelihood to remain in the county and would recommend it to others.
  • More than 80% of residents feel very or somewhat safe in their neighborhoods during the day, reflecting significant increases from previous surveys.
  • Residents highly value the county's natural environment, parks, and recreation opportunities, with many aspects scoring above national comparisons.
  • The survey also highlights above-average ratings in national benchmark comparisons for health and wellness opportunities, including affordable quality health care and mental health services.

Opportunities for improvement

While many responses were positive, the survey also identified areas where residents would like to see improvements.

  • Affordable childcare and housing remain ongoing challenges that impact residents’ overall quality of life.
  • Respondents expressed a desire for greater government transparency and a clearer alignment between the taxes they pay and the services they receive.
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion were highlighted by some residents who expressed a need for stronger connection and engagement within their communities.

Next steps

Olmsted County leaders will review the detailed feedback and ensure it is integrated into planning and improvements aligned with the county’s strategic priorities.
