Construction begins at Lake Zumbro Park on October 15
Community invited to share feedback on picnic shelter and fishing pier
October 14, 2025
Construction work at Lake Zumbro Park will begin on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, as contractors start improvements to the parking lot and boat launch area.
Beginning October 15, Rochester Public Utilities will begin lowering the lake by six feet over two weeks. Once the water gets too low for safe boat launching, the launch will temporarily close for repairs. One lane of the boat launch will reopen when water levels are safe again. It will stay open until the lake begins to freeze for the season.
Construction of a new boat launch and parking area is expected to be completed before Memorial Day on May 25, 2026. There is no anticipated impact on local traffic during construction.
“We’re excited to begin these long-awaited improvements at Lake Zumbro Park,” said Olmsted County Parks and Trails Director Karlin Ziegler. “These upgrades will enhance safety, accessibility, and the overall experience for everyone who enjoys the lake. We look forward to unveiling the finished project next spring.”
Open house scheduled for October 23 at The Pondy
The Olmsted County Parks and Trails department invites the public to an open house on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Pondy Restaurant and Bar at 40240 Wabasha County Road 90 in Mazeppa.
Staff will present design concepts for the shelter and fishing pier area of the park and gather community feedback to help shape the future of Lake Zumbro’s recreational offerings.
