Olmsted County holding Ear of Corn water tower celebration on September 25

With the recent painting of the Ear of Corn water tower and to mark a new chapter of this beloved landmark at Graham Park, the Olmsted County Commissioners are inviting all Olmsted County residents to a celebration on September 25, 2021. The event will be held at 1355 Fairgrounds Avenue SE in Rochester at Graham Park on September 25 from 9 – 11 a.m. Not only will the event mark the recent revitalization of the Ear of Corn tower, but it will also be a time to celebrate its long history in our community.

“The ear of corn water tower was constructed in 1931 and has been a staple of the Rochester skyline,” said Director of Facilities and Building Operations Mat Miller. “Restoring the water tower helps to preserve this icon for generations to come.”

The September 25 Ear of Corn water tower celebration will include cake, games, and prizes. The following individuals will be the event’s featured speakers:

  • Olmsted County Board of Commissioners Chair Stephanie Podulke
  • Olmsted County Commissioner Jim Bier
  • Ear of Corn water tower historian Allen Whipple

Additionally, live music and food will be available across the street in partnership with the Rochester Farmers Market.

“For many of us in Olmsted County, when we see the Ear of Corn water tower, we think of home. It is, in many ways, a symbol of both our past as well as our future,” said Podulke. “I look forward to seeing our community members on September 25 and celebrating the future of the corn tower as it will remain a prized fixture at Graham Park, even as we look to enhance and transform that space over the next several years.”
