Oxbow Park campground opening September 1, 2026

Olmsted County Parks and Trails is pleased to announce the opening of its new campground at Oxbow Park on September 1, 2026. Reservations are now open, inviting campers and outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy a refreshed camping experience. 

The new campground includes 42 electric sites, water hook-ups, a convenient dump station, a spacious restroom facility, and two vault toilets. Campers will also enjoy Wi-Fi access, a large playground, and plenty of green space.  

Four camper cabins offer comfortable lodging for up to six people and include both air conditioning and heat for year‑round comfort. Each cabin is ADA accessible. Pets are not permitted in the camper cabins. 

“Our goal was to create a high-quality, accessible campground that meets the needs of today’s campers,” said Olmsted County Parks and Trails Director Karlin Ziegler. “Whether guests are visiting for a weekend or a longer stay, we’re proud to offer amenities that support relaxation, recreation, and connection.”  

The decision to develop a new campground was driven by persistent flooding at the existing site. Seasonal rainfall and regular river flooding have caused extensive damage over the years, making repairs and ongoing maintenance costly.  

Relocating the campground to higher ground provides a safer, more sustainable experience for visitors. The former campground will be repurposed for a youth group camping area in uppermost area out of the typical flood zone, while the majority of the campsites will be removed to restore to native prairie or provide additional open green space.   

“This project reflects our commitment to responsible land management,” Ziegler said. “Moving the campground away from the flood-prone area allows us to protect both the natural landscape and the investments we make at the park.” 

The new campground at Oxbow Park was made possible through funding from the Parks and Trails Legacy Fund, which supports the enhancement of outdoor recreation and natural resources across the state.
