Join Olmsted County for “Operation Green Light” in support of Veterans Day
November 6, 2023
For the second consecutive year, Olmsted County is participating in "Operation Green Light" in honor of the approaching Veterans Day holiday. Beginning Monday, November 6 through Sunday, November 12, 2023, the lights in the Government Center Rotunda will be illuminated green to honor veterans.
“In our hearts, many of us hold a special place for the veterans we know and love. 'Operation Green Light' is a unique way for our community to express deep gratitude for those who have served our nation. The Olmsted County Veteran Services team is dedicated to ensuring our community's veterans feel our unwavering support. You are valued members of our community, deserving of respect and recognition for your profound sacrifices, and we extend our heartfelt thanks,” said Olmsted County Veteran Services Manager Tiffany Canfield.
How you can show support
There are several ways residents can express their support to veterans in our community.
- Express your gratitude: A simple "thank you for your service" can make a significant difference in showing veterans that their sacrifices are valued. Encourage others to express their gratitude as well.
- Attend Veterans Day events:
- Join us for a free breakfast and a Veterans Day program on November 11, 2023, at the Rochester International Event Center. Breakfast, courtesy of Powers Ventures, will be served from 8:30 to 10 a.m., followed by a program from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Speakers include State Senator Carla Nelson, Army veteran Chad Stowers as the emcee, and the talented singer Brad Boice.
- Attend the 2023 Veterans Day Jamboree on November 10-11, 2023, at the Tradition Veterans Complex in Hastings Minnesota. There will be food trucks, a beer garden, bonfire, interactive games for kids, live music, a raffle, online auction, special appearances and much more. This will be a fantastic event for family and friends. It is outside, so please dress appropriately!
- Volunteer for veterans: Many organizations welcome volunteers such as veterans' hospitals, VA clinics, and military support groups. Consider spending time assisting at these institutions or participating in community service projects dedicated to veterans.
- Add a green light to your house: Whether it's an exterior light visible to neighbors and passersby or an interior light that sparks conversations with friends, shining a green light signifies that our veterans are seen, appreciated, and supported.
