Olmsted County approves property tax relief
Individuals, businesses, and property owners across Olmsted County continue to deal with the many effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, some Olmsted County taxpayers may have difficulty meeting the May 17, 2021 deadline for the first half payment of 2021 property taxes. To provide some property tax relief during this difficult time, today the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners approved a one-time temporary abatement of the penalty and interest for late property tax payments. This will extend the date that late payment penalties begin to accrue from May 17 to July 15, 2021.
Important points to note:
- Payments for the first half of 2021 property taxes are due May 17.
- If this payment is not made by May 17, there will be no penalties assessed unless the first half of property taxes is not paid by July 15.
- This does not apply to property taxes paid by escrow.
- Partial property tax payments will be accepted up to July 15.
Not all individuals and businesses in Olmsted County are experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19. Those that are still able to make their first-half property tax payments by May 17 are encouraged to do so.
