Olmsted County Parks and Trails - New department name
Olmsted County is pleased to share that the department previously known as Olmsted County Parks is now officially Olmsted County Parks and Trails.
This name change reflects the department’s expanded focus—not only maintaining and enhancing our beautiful parks but also planning and developing trail systems that connect parks, neighborhoods, and communities across the county.
In recent years, the importance of trails has become increasingly clear. In the 2022 Olmsted County Resident Survey, residents ranked trail and greenway connections as a top priority for recreational opportunities. This new name supports a long-term vision to improve trail access, create stronger park-to-community connections, and provide more ways for residents to enjoy the outdoors.
What’s next?
While the new Parks and Trails name is now official, updates to signage and materials will take place gradually over the next few months.
The Olmsted County Parks and Trails department is also working toward a comprehensive master plan that will guide future park and trail investments. Community input will be an important part of that process, with engagement efforts on the trail system beginning in 2026.
The Olmsted County Parks and Trails department looks forward to continuing its mission of preserving natural spaces and expanding access to parks and trails for all who live, work, and visit Olmsted County.
