Minnesota Housing approves finance application for Mayowood II Senior Apartments

December 15, 2023

The board of Minnesota Housing has approved Olmsted County’s finance application for Mayowood II Senior Apartments. In total, Minnesota Housing accepted 125 applications from across the state. This milestone brings Olmsted County’s much-anticipated $13 million project one step closer to reality, with construction slated to begin in the fall of 2024.

“This approval marks a significant achievement for our community,” said Olmsted County Housing and Planning Director Dave Dunn. “Mayowood II Senior Apartments will not only address the housing needs of some of our low-income seniors, but it will also contribute to the overall well-being of Olmsted County.”

The three-story Mayowood II Senior Apartments will be strategically located at 1001 Mayowood Road SW in Rochester, adjacent to the existing Mayowood Apartments. The facility is designed to offer 36 units of housing for low-income seniors, with 18 units dedicated to households at or below 50% of the area median income and an additional 18 units for those at or below 30% of the area median income.

“Mayowood II is a testament to what can be achieved through shared commitment and collaboration,” said Olmsted County Board of Commissioners Chair Gregg Wright. “We extend our sincere thanks for financial support from the City of Rochester, the Coalition for Rochester Area Housing, and the Olmsted County Housing and Redevelopment Authority. Together, we are creating a positive impact on the lives of our seniors and enhancing the fabric of our community.”
