Minnesota voting updates

As of June 1, 2023, several election laws went into effect in Minnesota. Residents with felony convictions, who are not currently incarcerated, can vote, and 16- and 17-year-old Minnesota residents can pre-register to vote.

Voting after a felony conviction
Minnesota residents can vote in an election if they are not currently incarcerated for a felony sentence, are on probation or parole, or if their felony conviction did not include prison time.

Pre-register to vote
You can pre-register to vote as a 16- or 17-year-old in Minnesota. To vote, you must be 18 years old on or before Election Day.

Register to vote or update your registration
Olmsted County and the City or Rochester encourages everyone to register before Election Day. The deadline to register in advance is 21 days before Election Day. You can register to vote online or download an application from the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State.
