Marriage License/Marriage Certificate
Effective December 29, 2020, anyone needing the following services will need to make an appointment using the Olmsted County Online Check-in System. These services will not appear as options in the Olmsted County Online Check-in System until December 29.
- Vital records: Birth, marriage, and death certificates
- Notary
- Ministry credentials (ordination)

1. Read all these steps first!
Because we are using physical distancing to help keep people safe, our process has changed.
Read the following instructions all the way through before you begin.
2. Attend Pre-marital Education (Optional)
Premarital Education Requirements
Parties must submit a signed, notarized and dated educator's statement from the person who provided the premarital education.
The educator's statement must have specific wording and must be on their business letterhead stationery.
3. Complete and submit the online application
Use the Minnesota Official Marriage System (MOMS) to apply for a marriage license.
4. Both parties need to come to our office
Up to 90 days in advance, come to the office to sign the license application. (You both need to be present.)
Bring with you:
- Valid identification (driver's license, state ID or Passport.)
- Fee = $115 or
- $40 and Premarital Education Statement (signed & notarized)
We accept credit card, check, money order, or certified check payable to Olmsted County Vital Records. There is a 2.49% convenience fee for credit card payments. Note that the most up-to-date fees can be found in the document below.
5. When you come to the Government Center
To minimize health risks, we ask that you bring no more than one guest along with you (and your guest should only be invited if necessary).

6. What to expect when you arrive
Follow the posted directions. They will tell you where to check in. After you check in, you will receive further instructions.
If you have questions, there will be staff available to direct you.
When it is your turn, you will be called to the desk.
Marriage Certificate
Olmsted County can provide you with certified marriage certificates if you applied for the marriage license in Olmsted County.
If you are not sure which Minnesota county you were married in, check the Minnesota Online Marriage System.

Download, print and complete the Certified Marriage Certificate Request form.
Note: You can fill this out online before you print it.
2. Calculate the fees
$9 for each certified certificate
Optional Fees:
$20 rush processing (processing your application before all others)
$26.95 United States Postal Service Priority Express Mail (optional)
We accept check or money order payable to Olmsted County Vital Records
We also accept credit card payments (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express) Note: There is a 2.49% convenience fee for credit card payments.
3. Submit the application
