Recovery efforts continue following recent severe weather
Residents encouraged to submit storm damage reports
Nearly one week after tornadoes struck Olmsted County on April 17, 2026, local agencies continue assessing damage and supporting residents affected by the severe weather. While the storms caused considerable structural damage, there were only three minor injuries reported. The Olmsted County Board of Commissioners has declared a state of emergency to assist with ongoing recovery work.
Impact in Marion Township
Marion Township saw the most significant damage, with approximately 30 homes affected. Twelve homes sustained major structural damage, while the remaining properties experienced minor to moderate impacts. For safety, emergency crews disconnected electricity and natural gas in the hardest-hit areas. Personnel from Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Rochester Fire Department, and the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office conducted door-to-door checks to assess needs and ensure resident safety.
Damage reported in Stewartville
In Stewartville, an estimated eight homes experienced major damage, with 14 additional homes sustaining minor damage. Fifteen residents were displaced by the storm and are currently staying with family or friends.
Quincy Township updates
Quincy Township in northeast Olmsted County reported one home with damage and a separate site with a severely damaged shed.
Haverhill Township updates

Shelter resources and displacement
An estimated 30–50 residents required shelter or alternative accommodations after their homes were damaged. Some individuals stayed with family or friends, others arranged their own lodging, and some utilized space provided at Autumn Ridge Church. Olmsted County Public Health, Rochester Emergency Management, and the American Red Cross continue coordinating resources for anyone unable to safely remain in their home.
Residents asked to report property damage
Olmsted County is asking any residents who experienced storm-related property damage to complete the severe weather damage assessment form. These reports help determine the overall impact and assist the county in evaluating eligibility for potential state or federal disaster relief.
