Olmsted County is committed to building diverse advisory boards and commissions to provide community input to the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners on the public services which the county offers. We seek members representing an array of the protected classes outlined in the Minnesota Human Rights Act.
Please note: Volunteers can only serve on one volunteer board/commission at a time.

Sheriff’s Civil Service Commission

Olmsted County Zoning Board of Adjustment Olmsted County Planning Advisory Commission The Olmsted County Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) and Planning Advisory Commission (PAC) consists of seven community members, plus one non-voting County Commissioner. Members are appointed to both boards and serve a three-year term. Member responsibilities:
Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Council/Board Chambers of the Government Center, 151 4th Street SE, Rochester. State rules require at least two volunteers to live in an unincorporated area of the county (a township). Have questions? Olmsted County Parks and Trails Commission Advisory board consists of nine at-large members, one being a County Commissioner. All members serve a 3-year term. Officers consist of a chair, vice-chair, and secretary. Member responsibilities:

Public Health Services Advisory Board The Public Health Service Advisory Board (PHSAB) is a citizen board appointed by the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners. Under Minnesota Statute 145A, the Olmsted County Board has authority as Public Health Board. The Public Health Services Advisory Board acts as a community-based advisory board for both Public Health and the County Health Board on emerging and ongoing public health topics. |

Rochester-Olmsted Council of Governments (ROCOG) The Rochester-Olmsted Council of Governments (ROCOG) is the local Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Rochester’s urbanized area. ROCOG is a federally mandated and funded transportation policy-making organization. ROCOG is governed by a 16-member council, made up of elected officials, public school representatives, and community representatives. Community volunteers are asked to serve a three -year term. MPOs represent local governments and transportation authorities in urbanized areas with populations over 50,000, facilitating the development of transportation plans an ensuring that federal funding is allocated in a manner that is cooperative and comprehensive. MPOs play a crucial role in the planning and implementation of transportation projects, ensuring that local communities have a voice in the decision-making process.
