On Saturday, September 16, 2023, the Friends of Drug Court will be hosting a grownup kickball tournament and free barbeque picnic for residents. This family friendly event will feature live music, a bounce house, bean bag toss, and more!

Olmsted County Drug Court is a unique opportunity that helps people change life circumstances to become alcohol and drug free. The goal of drug court is to provide evidence-based treatment plans to people to help them live in long-term recovery.

According to Olmsted County Drug Court Coordinator Andrew Lea, the drug court “presents the most economical and effective approach” in minimizing the relationship between a participant’s chemical dependency and criminal behavior. This program “allows participants to work toward positive lifestyle changes and engage in activities within the community.”

Additionally, hosting community events, such as the barbeque and tournament, “gives participants a sense of purpose and community,” Lea states. Lea also recognizes that being surrounded by “community and friendship is invaluable to the participant.” Events like these are a great way to engage with the community while having fun!

The tournament on September 16 will begin at 10 a.m. and a picnic will follow at noon. Both the kickball tournament and picnic will be held at McQuillan Fields at 1655 Marion Rd SE, Rochester, MN.

Interested in signing your team up for kickball? Team captains should email JR Robertson or Dustin Lowy before September 8, 2023, to secure their spot in the tournament.

Those who wish to participate in the picnic should RSVP to Andrew Lea. We look forward to seeing you there!
