The tax classification system is established by the authority of the State of Minnesota, not Olmsted County. Olmsted County is responsible for the valuation and classification of property as well as the collection of property tax. On our website, you can find valuable information to help understand the property tax system and learn more about tax deferral and relief programs, some of which are also administered in part by Olmsted County in accordance with state law. For instance, state law adjusted the homestead value exclusion reducing the tax impact on moderately valued homes.

“The approved Olmsted County 2026 operating budget reflects months of careful planning, thoughtful analysis, and a strong commitment to service excellence,” said Olmsted County Administrator Travis Gransee. “We remain dedicated to being responsible stewards of public resources while delivering innovative, high-quality services that enhance the lives of our residents. This budget supports our continued progress toward a vibrant, thriving community.”

“As we wrap up 2025, I’m proud of the work Olmsted County has done to build a safe, healthy, and welcoming community,” continued Gransee. “We encourage residents to stay connected and engaged with us throughout the year.
